San Diego: The Early Days

Juan Cabrillo was the very first European to visit the area San Diego is in. Cabrillo left Mexico in 1542, and within three months he landed in San Diego Bay. However, this isn’t really where San Diego’s story begins, as it was in 1769 when things started to unfold. In 1769, missions were built across the state. In 1821, Mexico broke free of Spain, but then California was annexed in 1846.

San Diego: The 19th Century

San Diego’s population grew by quite a bit, and by 1850 several hundred called it home. In 1851, the Colorado House was built, which was followed by the construction of the Old Point Loma Lighthouse in 1855. In 1856, the Whaley House was constructed, and this was the first home of its kind to be built in California.

Throughout the 1860s, the population grew rapidly. The population was around 725, but then it grew to 2,300 by 1870. In 1868, Balboa Park opened its doors.

In the late 19th century, many famous buildings were erected. This included the Villa Montezuma and the Louis Bank of Commerce. The Yuma Building was also built.

San Diego: The 20th Century

Early in the 20th century, a major US naval based was created in San Diego. Unfortunately, in 1905 there was an explosion on the USS Bennington. At the time of the explosion, it was docked in San Diego, and many people were injured, and over 60 men were killed. Also, when the great depression hit in the 1930s, San Diego did quite well when compared to many other parts of the United States.

stadiumAs an individual, you will be showing the kids and the local sports that you support them and not a specific team or event as a point of exposure. So this will allow the people who are playing on the sports teams, especially the kids to start to feel better about the aspect of the work they are doing and know that it is not just being used as an exposure to the parents who are coming out. Instead, they will understand that the individuals who are coming out are doing so to support the local San Diego sports teams and help them grow and gain confidence.

You will also notice when a group of individuals is supporting the teams they are going to have more of an impact as the local individuals who are supporting the teams can start to make changes happen. Yes, the corporate dollars can help make a change happen, but if people are doing the work and voicing their opinion to the people, they elect about changes that are needed they tend to take more notice. So they are going to have a chance to get more work done than any of the amount of money that would be given can do.

Finally, you will notice when you are supporting the local sports teams when they are not large, you will have more of a chance of helping the players learn more at a younger age. This way you can finally get the chance to make an impact on the life of someone who is learning how to play the game and potentially give them the confidence to inspire them to become a star in the future.

Sports is an excellent way for people to come together and enjoy each others company. The problem that you will find is sometimes people are going to be unaware of what kind of changes they can make as an individual. By knowing why you should support the local sports teams, though, it will be straightforward for you to see that you are not only going to help inspire the younger player but also have a chance to make a direct impact on the players and where they play at.
